Data Center Cooling System Noise Reduction Retrofit
Technical Challenges
High noise from precision air conditioning cooling towers and chillers is affecting the working environment for operations staff and nearby office areas.
Solutions
Install sound barriers on cooling towers and air intake/exhaust silencers; provide custom acoustic enclosures for chillers with vibration isolation bases.
Implementation Results
Equipment zone noise reduced from 88dB to 55dB, meeting the acoustic environment requirements for data center operations.
Project Background
This cloud data center spans 2 square meters and houses thousands of servers. To ensure optimal equipment performance, the facility is equipped with a large-scale precision air conditioning system, including 8 cooling towers and 4 chiller units. Operating 24/7, these units generate noise that disrupts operations staff and nearby office areas.
Technical Details
- Cooling Tower Noise Reduction: Install a 3m-high sound barrier with integrated silencers at the top.
- Chiller Soundproofing: Custom Enclosures with Noise Reduction ≥ 35 dB
- Vibration Damping: All equipment is equipped with spring dampers, achieving a vibration isolation efficiency of ≥90%.
- Flexible Pipe Connection: Cooling water lines use rubber flexible joints to isolate vibration transmission.
- Fan noise reduction: Replace with low-noise fans and optimize speed control.
